Putting the POW in Power Girl

Here's the Michael Turner cover of JLA#10 coming out in June:

Um. Putting aside that one of the most powerful superheroes in the DCU is named Power Girl, this image is just a disaster on many levels.

1. The Costume -Ok, say that Power Girls chest was that gargantuan, wouldn't that costume be the most uncomfortable spandex to wear. It would rub that area raw I'd think. Especially when you factor in wind-resistance when she is flying.

2. One hand not knowing what the other is doing -Wasn't just a few weeks ago Dc was urging readers to try out Supergirl and it's new "down to Earth" portrayal of a teenage girl. But that all goes out the window with featuring some body types that defy human dimensions, poise, and gait

3. It Takes the 'Cake -Sure Michael Turner is well known for his "cheesecake" covers, but this is like Turner on psychotropic drugs.

My eyes hurt. I for one support women of all body types, but it's irresponsible of DC for depicting any woman (even silly costumed ones) looking like that. Maybe DC will have a variant cover with a more realistic body depiction?

Oh, forgot to mention. Doesn't the hair look like both women are wearing wigs? Waitaminute! I got it! DC is publishing The Pro now!

Comments

Good god. They're actually going to publish that? I can't stand Turner's art, but this piece makes all his other work I've seen look like Picasso.

Actually, I would think that skin that can repel bullets would be unlikely to get rubbed raw by mere fabric.

Ah! You'd think that Thom, but that costume has to be made of some super-thick material to keep together while repelling bullets, flame, creatures from the multiverse, and sexist comments from the peanut gallery.

Well, technically, she is Kryptonian (Earth-2)...she would likely have that same protective force field like Superman has that keeps his outfit from getting tattered. Ha!

It's ironic all the derision Turner is getting for this though...for him, this really struck me as an improvement over his Fathom and Supergirl covers.

Power Girl has always had a running joke: the original artist drew her bosum bigger with every issue, waiting for an editor to tell him to stop... I see the tradition continues.
