Lefty Says Something GOOD about the PS3

The world must be coming to an end, because I came to praise the PS3 not to bitch about it. Your playstation 3 may help find a cure for cancer, Parkinson's Disease, or cystic fibrosis. (For the full article, go here.)

The PS3 will have the capability to connect to Stanford University's Folding@home program, a distributed-computing project that focuses on what is called "protein folding." Stanford University is leveraging the PlayStation 3's Cell Broadband Engine in what could turn out to be a powerful distributed-computing network of PS3 systems helping study the causes of diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cystic fibrosis, and many cancers.

How can your sucky machine do something worthwile instead of taking up massive amounts of space?:

With the latest system software update expected to become available at the end of March, PS3 users can join the program simply by clicking on the new Folding@home icon or optionally set the application to run automatically whenever the PlayStation 3 is idle.

Hopefully, Microsoft will also take part in this really smart idea. In fact, I think we Xbox Live members should request that they do....when we're not playing Crackdown that is.

(BTW, I'm busy at work, so expect this week's Top Ten and Friday's 3 Questions to be delayed until early this evening)
