Shuffling Off the iPod
Stealing a page from Tosy & Cosh, here is, without any edits or forwarding, what has been playing on my iPod this morning when set on shuffle. ( I'll be updating this post with what else plays until I leave to take my wife to the doctor this afternoon):
1. Baby You're A Rich Man (The Beatles)
I'm almost embarassed to say it, but I enjoy Magical Mystery Tour more than Sgt. Peppers. I was quite happy to hear this song on my drive to work this morning.
2. The Palm Sunday Tornado Hits Crystal Lake (Sufjan Stevens)
Short song with a long title...it must be Sufjan Stevens. Part of the fun of having the shuffle on is trying to remember the song and artist playing with looking at the iPod. I knew the artist here, but the title I was in the dark on. Fun song.
3. Mr. Bojangles (King Curtis)
Wow, nice transitions from the Stevens song. I was really impresed with the last two songs, that I have decided to use them on one of August's Circle of Friends's mix If you haven't heard the Fillmore West album from King Curtis or Aretha Franklin, you owe it to your ears to check them out.
4. Psalm 131 (Waterdeep)
As few days ago I put a whole bunch of Christian music on my iPod to prepare for my next month's Circle of Friends planned mix. A very stirring song for me.
5. Atlantic (Keane)
I forgot I had Keane on my iPod. I keep forgetting how much I like them, even if they are considered to be Coldplay/U2 knock-offs, a title that does hold some truth, but then I fall on listening to them I can't help but like them.
6. I Am the Walrus (The Beatles)
So my iPod starts to show some of it's "personality". For those of you that don't know my iPod is named Stevie (after Steve Jobs), and it has excellent taste in music...sometimes better taste than I have (it refuses to play that Peter Cetera album I've uploaded onto it).
7. Desire (U2)
Wow, that was weird! I Am the Walrus ends with crowd noise and The Beatles being introduced, and than Desire launches out with BANG! Really, really cool. Damn Stevie, you impress me!
8. Can't Help Falling In Love (Lick the Tins)
This song is on one of this month's Circle of Friends mix. I have long dug this song from the Some Kind of Wonderful soundtrack.
9. Naked in the Rain (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Decent song. Shut up! It is.
10. Please -Live from Rotterdam (U2)
One of the best songs from the Pop album, and even better when performed live. Stevie loves U2.
11. The Worst Joke Ever (R.E.M.)
Bit of an awkward transition from the U2 tune. Far from my favorite R.E.M. song.
12. All the Way (Richard Hell & the Voivoids)
Richard Hell channels his inner lounge lizard for this tune.
13. Back in the U.S.S.R. (The Beatles)
Hmm, Stevie is REALLY on a Beatles kick today. One of these days I'm going to have a mix that puts this song butt against the Beach Boys' California Girls. In fact that would make for an awesome mix: Beatles versus Beach Boys. Hmmmmmmmm.
14. Circle Slide (The Choir)
Hands down this is from my absolute favorite Christian album. It showed me that there are Christian musicians that are trying to create art and not provide cheap imitations of popular music.
Update 11:30 AM:
15. Minor Threat (Minor Threat)
More of this please Stevie. Me likey!
16. Do (White Stripes)
Me loves me some White Stripes. I still think needs to be a White Stripes cover band that does their songs as reinterpretated as the blues.
17. Sweet River Roll (Waterdeep)
Everytime I think my life is in the shitter, I need to listen to this song to remind me there are a great many people in worse shape, yet still find sweet grace and quiet relief in the arms of our Creator.
18. Somewhere Else (Marillion)
A few months back, Greg Burgas sent me a disc of his favortie band Marillion. It's still on my iPod, but I haven't listened to it that much in the months since then. They really aren't that bad, and I need to listen to them some more.
19. Pop Song '89 -Acoustic (R.E.M.)
Nice song to end with as I am out the door to take my wife to the doctor. I'll be back at work later this afternoon, so maybe I'll keep this up.
(More to come....)
Comments
Have you heard the acoustic (piano/guitar) version of Please? Awesome.
