Shuffling Off the iPod... Part Two
I'm back at work, my wife's Doctor appt. went well, and hopefully she gets some needed pain relief. So continuing on with Stevie's (my iPod) shuffle:
1. Prisoner of Love (Tin Machine)
I need to listen to this album more. I picked it up dirt cheap at my local music store, and I have really enjoyed it. This song is no exception.
2. The Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song (System of a Down)
I have a soft spot in my heart for SOTD, and I like their playfullness in this song.
3. Cry The Name (Rich Mullins)
Man I've hardly played this CD and I've had it for years. Rich Mullins was at one time my favorite Christian artist, primarily because he was substance no flash. His music and faith and actions showed a servant's heart. I cried so hard when I learned he died in a car accident several years ago.
4. Barbarism Begins At Home (The Smiths)
Almost by force of will I will learn to love the Smiths. So far I have really fallen in love with the Strangeways album. All my friends LOVE The Smiths, but I feel a little left out when they start quoting lyrics around each other.
5. I'm A Man (Bo Diddley)
I think I've talked enough times about how much Gordon D. is my favorite musical guru. This is one more example why. Last year he told me to pick up some Bo, and know I just don't know Diddley, I loooooove Diddley.
6. The Weight Around (Umphree's McGee)
This is a jamband I could really grow to love if given the chance. Some of their songs (like this one) are little too folksy, like Dave matthews Band folksy for me, but others just deliver a K-O of great muscianship.
7. Mixed-Up Girl (Aretha Franklin)
Once again, pick up the Fillmore West shows by both King Curtis and Aretha Franklin. I have the limited edition box set Rhino put out a few years ago, and has all three nights of the run. Stupendous!
8. That's How I Got To Memphis (Solomon Burke)
This is probably my favorite track off of one of 2006 best albums (according to me). Stevie, you've done good.
9. The Bood That Moves The Body (A-ha)
I joke abou tit, but it just might be true; I think I have the most A-ha albums in my collection in the state of California, possibly the Western United States. I was going to post later this week about A-ha, no joke. Well that's something to look forward to I suppose.
10. Brand New Angel (Gov't Mule)
Thank Stevie! I'm going to see Velvet Revolver in a couple of months. I'm seeing Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, and Queensryche in October...but maaaaaaaaaan I am so anxiously waiting to see Mule in concert again. I got the jonez for some live Mule....especialy if it's with Tony & Mary Holt (When are you gonna update your blog man!
11. Only In My Dreams (Debbie Gibson)
Moooooooooooooving on......(it was on an Rhino 80s box set, but I do own a copy of Gibson's Electric Youth on CD that I picked up at a garage sale)
12. Let Me Share The Ride (Black Crowes)
Ah much better.
13. Jesus Hits Like An Atom Bomb (Lowell Blachard)
Roger Green had this song on a mix that is still on my iPod. I liked it but today I really listened to the lyrics, and now I have mixed feelings about it.
14. Jolene (Me First & the Gimme Gimmies)
Ahhhh one of my favorite Dolly Parton songs, sung by one of my wife's favorite punk bands. I like them too...just not as much as she does.
15. Everyone's Beautiful (Waterdeep)
Boy, Stevie is sure enjoying Waterdeep today. Maybe Stevie will play something from their new album which I have sitting on the iPod just waiting to be heard.
16. The Lost Brigade (Ted Leo & the Pharmacists)
Another band Gordon D. turned me onto in a big way.
17. Soft Rain of April (A-ha)
From my favorite A-ha album, Scoundrel Days. Nice.
18. Behind A Camel (The Police)
Man I've had that Police box set on my iPod forever! Unforunately it's the only way I'll be able to hear them, because their tickets cost too damn much!
19. Thieves in The Temple (Prince)
Not my favorite Prince song, but I reminded that Prince has a new album out, and it is supposedly very good. Even has Wendy & Lisa on it.
20. Soba Violence (Beastie Boys)
Man I really should listen more to my Beastie Boys best of. I love the Beastie more punk moments.
21. Caledonia Mission (The Band)
Music From the Big Pink is one fo the best albums ever made. Debate amongst yourselves.
22. Rusholme Ruffians (The Smiths)
From the live album Rank, another Smith song I know nothing about. Once again I need to do my homework on The Smiths.
23. St. Jimmy (Green Day)
Man I haven't listened to this album in a long time, but after hearing this I want to again.
24. Bounce (System of A Down)
Another interesting song that gets my blood pumping.
25. Looking for a Kiss (New York Dolls)
Yet another Gordon D. recommendation! I think I'm gonna start my very own Blog Ths Pal! fan blog.
Update: Wow it's tiume to start closing the library already. Wow, this really took up anwful amount of space for a silly little musical experiment.
Comments
Just in the interests of full and open disclosure...
...actually, Lefty, you turned me onto Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, since I had never heard any of their music.
I appreciate the flattery, but I honestly cannot take credit for introducing Ted Leo to you. Honest.

Wow, Debbie Gibson on the same suffle as System of a Down? That's interesting. I guess that's that's not werider than some of the things I have on mine. Anyway, SOAD is one of my favorite bands. Love every album of theirs.

Well, yes, the lyrics of Jesus Hits Like an Atomic Bomb ARE supposed to shake you up - so to speak. It's also of its time.

Cool to hear someone else is digging Tin Machine finally. I loved that band and was lucky enough to see them live once. As for my blog, after a weekend to the coast (and away from the computer), I will be posting my Ozzfest '07 story. One word: bonfires!!
