Something to Add to Your Comic Pull List....

Not really, but this is comedy that nearly writes itself.

Porn "Star" and (whaaaa!) New York Times best-selling author, Jenna Jameson is creating and staring in her own line of comics for the Virgin Comics line.

Did that throw your head for a doozy? Porn actress working for Virgin Comics, home of other "famous" authors/actors like Nic Cage, Guy Ritchie, Dave Stewart and others. When I first heard the news, I immediately thought of the perfect artist to draw what sure to be a very complex and deep book.

Well sure enough, pin-up rip-off artist Greg Horn come on down! You are the artist on the new book that seems like some sort of Dante-flavored level of Hell for you. You can not leave this level of hell Mr. Horn until you're able draw something that doesn't feel like it was lifted or stolen from the pages of Playboy or Maxim. You're going to be here for a very long time...bwahahahahaaaa!

Um, anyway this new series, titled Shadow Hunter will debut in December.

“I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Virgin to bring this story to life, first as comics and eventually in film and other formats,” said Jenna Jameson. “Working with comics is creatively liberating – everything is possible. My character is sultry, sexy and kicks ass!’

I'm guessing by film, she means she's gonna star in a porn "film" featuring this character, and I'm sure her sidekick will be a well-buxomed lady that we need a little help getting into her costume...help that only our heroine can assit in over cheesy synth music.

Anyway Jenna seems real excited to do this project. Actually this is probably the closest she'll be near a Virgin in many moons.....

Oh, she's going to be at the San Diego Comic Con this weekend....three football stadiums of comic book fanboys, Stormtroopers, the ever-rising tide of Browncoats? Never mind, she'll be around a plethora of virgins this weekend.

And now for some plithy comments about the art that accompanied the press release:

+ Hmm sometimes a sword is just a sword......um and then again.

+ For a crime fighter, she should really rethink her outfit. If you got to unzip fo before you unpack a can of whoop-ass being a superhero is a wrong career choice.

+ Is Jenna having a "There's Something About Mary" problem with her hair? Maybe she was fooling around with that sword for too long.

+ Boy what will Marvel have to do next to compete with this new low? Maybe the can add Cherry Poptart to their Max line (now with menacing Anime tentacles)?

This casts a bit of a pall on comics ever being considered a serious medium of culture. The Sandman: two steps forward; the Shadow Hunter: ten steps back. I realize that Comics have generally been middle-brow, but there has been signs of promise regarding its ability to address issues regarding the human condition in suprisingly sophisticated and unique ways.

Also, Jenna seemed to project a sense that she only views this opportunity as a stepping stone toward what she really wants: a blockbuster franchise in film. She seems to be a comic user who knows that she can use her reputation to inflame the loins of all those "virgins" out there to prompt mass sales of her product. If and when she crosses over to the big screen she will probably leave comics behind like a dirty rag, the kind used to wipe down the set where she began her career. Oh well $ talks, and bullsh*t sells alot.

Of course, I rant from a limited perspective as I have no where near the depth and breadth of knowledge regarding comics that you have Chris. So, tell me, am I off in my rant.

No, pretty damn near hit the mark there.
