Sometimes Things Just Break

This has been the week for things to break around the Brown household. On Friday night as we return from our Bay Area medical excursion, I discovered that my Xbox 360 developed what is know as the Red Rings of Death (RRoD), which is the indicator that your Xbox 360 has perished. He was such a good Xbox 360, and I am actually a bit relieved that the 360 contracted the RRoD, because the console was still under warranty (bought it in Feb 2006). Microsoft will fix it for free, and I might even get back a Xbox 360 with a quieter disc drive, a disc tray that doesn't jam-up, and a new heat sink that should avoid future RRoD problems. So I am waiting for my 360's "coffin" to arrive to send it off. I just have to wait a couple weeks. In the meantime, my wife and I have been "negotiating" time that I can spend playing on her Xbox 360.

On Sunday, our HP laptop stopped connecting to our wireless network. I took to the laptop to work, and it couldn't connect to the wireless network there either. So this morning I spent some time chatting with a very nice HP support professional, and we went through various steps to see if we could get the wireless card to work again. Well, it seems other similar models are having a problem with the motherboard connecting to the wireless card, and my laptop is no exception it seems. So I am now waiting for a box to arrive to I can send off the laptop, however I only will have to wait 7 working days to get the laptop back.

So I have my fingers crossed that nothing else breaks down this week, but I have a sneaky suspicion that I will soon be returning my Comcast DVR for replacement, because the hard drive is starting to do weird things to my sound and picture of the recorded programs.

Ain't technology grand?

Don't go to the bathroom, Chris!!

What's the red ring of death?

My 360 is starting to make some sounds too..... scary sounds. Every hear a blender with ice in it? I am not sure it is still under warranty. I don't think I could make it without my 360 for a few weeks. We don't have a second. I'd probably just drop the $400 to get a new spiffy black one.
